Jaipur Travels

Jaipur,
also known as the pink city for its pink coloured buildings has been the capital
of the state of Rajasthan since 1727 AD. The city got its name from its founder
Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II who was a great ruler, a renowned mathematician
and an astrologer. In his regime, architect Vidhyadhar Bhattacharya designed
Jaipur as per the Hindu norms, Shilpa Shastra. The architect planned the city
with great precision and divided the city into rectangular sections separated
by wide roads. A huge peripheral wall with gigantic gates guarded the city from
any invasion from a neighbouring kingdom.
The city lies in parched plains and is surrounded by barren hills of sand
with each of the hills crowned by forts and beautiful palaces. The mansions
and gardens around the city narrate the rich heritage and history of Jaipur.
Today, Jaipur is a city of variety where one can see both motorized vehicles
and camel carts together creating a traffic jam on the roads. On one side
is the modern Cyber caf?nd American fast foods and on the other side one can
notice traditionally dressed Rajput men wearing coloured turbans and prominent
moustaches.
Jaipur is also famous for a splendid collection of handicrafts especially the
exquisite gold jewellery enameled or inlaid with precious stones, blue pottery,
carving on wood, stone & ivory, block print, tie & dye textiles, hand
made paper and miniature painting.
